Accessibility statement

The Eastern Cape Department of Education is committed to making this website accessible to all citizens, including people with disabilities, in line with the GCIS Web Guidelines and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

What we have done

• Semantic HTML5 landmarks (header, nav, main, footer)
• Skip-to-content link on every page
• Visible keyboard focus indicators
• Sufficient colour contrast (text against backgrounds meets AA)
• Descriptive alt text on informative images
• Responsive layout that works on mobile, tablet, and desktop
• Closed-caption support where available on video content (in progress)

Known limitations

Some embedded third-party content (maps, social media feeds) is provided by external services and may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. Video closed captions are being added progressively.
