The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) participated in a community outreach held at Nqqika Primary School in Zwelithsa, outside King William’s Town on Monday, 7 December 2015.

The outreach was an initiative of the Seventh Day Adventist church and the ECDoE partnered with the church. The aim of the outreach is to assist the learners coming from the poorest backgrounds with school uniform. The Adventist church managed to donate 25 school uniforms.

The ECDoE threw its weight behind the project by donating 50 school uniforms with 50 school shoes for boys and girls. The small function organised by Ngqika Primary School and the ECDoE, represented by Mr M. Mamponya and Mr P. Ngqumba who did the official hand over.

Ngqumba said education is a societal matter therefore society has a role to play in education.

“The society needs to do away with blame game habits, but join hands to face challenges within education in order to and improve the standard of education,” said Ngqumba.

He advised the school principal to establish a database of the school’s former learners and invite them to get involved in projects similar to this one.

The uniform was handed over to the school principal and the School Governing Body (SGB) members.
